MEXICALI, Baja California, June 5, 2008.-
Venezuela relied on its strength to defeat Mexico
in four sets (25-27, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19) in a
match of the consolation round for the 5-10
positions of the Women’s Pan American Cup.
Desiree Glod had 19 points and Yessica Paz and
Jayce Andrade each had 14 for Venezuela and Maria
Jose Perez and Roslandy Acosta added 8 apiece.
Martha Revueltas led Mexico with 11 points.
“We recovered after losing the second set and used
our strength to win this match against a resilient
Mexican team who fought every point,” said Jayce
Andrade, captain of Venezuela.
“We suffered the loss of Migdalel Ruiz halfaway in
the second set and this affected the team
emotionally,” said Revuelta. “Anyway, we must give
credit to Venezuela because they showed their
abilities and deserved the win.” |
